It is important to note that the right to withdraw the PIS/PASEP salary bonus is not universal for all workers.
Currently, of the 42 million workers with formal employment contracts in Brazil, only about 20 million have access to this benefit.
To confirm your eligibility for the benefit and check your PIS/PASEP balance, you need to visit the Caixa Econômica Federal or Banco do Brasil website, depending on which program you are enrolled in.
Criteria for redeeming the PIS/PASEP salary bonus in 2023
- You must have been registered with PIS/PASEP or CNI (National Social Information Registry) for at least five years. Therefore, you must have obtained your Work Card in 2018 or earlier;
- In 2021, your formal remuneration must have been up to two minimum wages. In practical terms, this means you must have earned up to R$ 2,424.00 per month in 2021;
- In 2021, you must have worked with an employment contract for at least 30 days, consecutive or not;
- Your information must be up-to-date by your employer in eSocial or RAIS (Annual Social Information Report).
However, even if you have a formal employment contract, you will not be eligible for the PIS/PASEP salary bonus if you meet one of the following criteria:
- Domestic workers with formal employment contracts are not entitled to PIS benefits, according to Complementary Law 150/2015;
- Rural and urban workers employed by individuals are not entitled to the PIS salary bonus.
How can I check my PIS/PASEP balance for 2023?
The most practical way to check if you have any salary bonus funds to claim is to visit the Ministry of Economy's website using your CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) and the password you use to register on gov.br.
Alternatively, you can call CAIXA Cidadão customer service at 0800 726 0207. The call is free. Please have your PIS/PASEP and CPF numbers ready.
You can also check your benefit through the Caixa Tem app or the Digital Work Card app, if you have these apps installed on your phone.
